How much do you have to spend to get a Birkin?
There is no published number — Hermès has never confirmed a spend requirement. Across 931 community-reported cases (the Orange Book crowd data), buyers were most often offered a bag after a documented pre-spend near 1.4× the bag's retail price in other categories, with reported ratios from under 1× to over 5×. The pre-spend tool above turns that into a dollar figure for your exact bag and city.
Does the required spend depend on the city and the bag?
Yes on both. Reported medians run leaner in Paris, comparable in New York and London, and higher in some Asian markets. And because the bar is a multiple of retail, a Birkin 30 or an exotic needs proportionally more than a Constance 18 — which is exactly why the calculator is config-aware. Where a market has too few reports, it falls back to the community baseline and says so.
Is a resale price fair?
The fair-price tool compares an asking price to our cited pristine-condition resale median for that specific size and leather (sourced from Sotheby's, Fashionphile and 1stDibs). It tells you how far above or below the going rate a listing sits — condition, colour and hardware still move the real number.
Where is a Birkin cheapest?
The buy-abroad tool models the tax effect — VAT refund for tourists versus US sales tax — on the same list price. Paris and other VAT-refund markets usually net lower for visitors; the tool ranks them. It isolates tax only, since live per-country list prices aren't wired yet (and Paris is typically lower even before the refund).
